Where do skin yeast infection problems occur?
Well, you know how fungi like damp dark moist places? I know that the first place that you probably think of is the genital area, but what about between your toes? Under your breasts? Under your arms? Around the inner thigh and buttock area? How about your tummy – particularly where it meets your navel?
A skin yeast infection can occur anywhere on the body, but the folds of the skin are a particular favorite. These get the most sweat and the least air.
What causes a skin yeast infection?
Usually skin yeast infection symptoms appear because someone has been in too much of a hurry when washing and drying themselves. These are all great spots for sweat to collect in – in fact even sitting at a chair on a warm day will cause dampness in these areas. This means that paying special attention to the folds of your skin when washing is super important. Ditto when it comes to drying.
Occasionally there is an imbalance internally which has affected the external skin pH which makes the area more prone to an outbreak of a skin yeast infection.
OK, so how do we treat a skin yeast infection?
Fortunately getting relief from the symptoms of a skin yeast infection is really easy. There are many good over the counter medicines and there are also some great natural remedies around. The important thing is to make sure that you not only treat the external symptoms, but that you also treat the internal system to help prevent another outbreak.
Examples of direct treatments for skin yeast infections include;
- Topical creams and powders from the pharmacy
- Garlic paste
- Tea tree oil – please dilute it!
- Yogurt
- Cider vinegar
- Coconut oil
- Colloidal silver
To treat the internal system and help to prevent the Candida becoming recurrent thrush, jock itch or any other skin yeast infection you do need to look at making some lifestyle changes that will support your immune system.
- Have a look at your diet? I bet that you notice more outbreaks of thrush when you have had a great time, the wine, beer, chocolate, cake, fruit mince pies, parties ….after Christmas is usually a biggie for yeast infections of all types!
- Bingeing is OK occasionally but on the whole, take care with the amount of sugar, refined carbo’s and yeasty foods that you put into your system.
- Wear clothing that is loose and that allows the skin to breathe.
- Clean and dry yourself thoroughly – don’t forget to dry between your toes – preferably with a different cloth than used for the rest of your body!
- If you have been on antibiotics or are under any sort of physical or emotional stress it may pay to take a probiotic to give the good bacteria a hand in controlling the Candida fungus that may cause a skin yeast infection or worse.
Most importantly, please do not just ignore your skin yeast infection symptoms.
